OWN THAT S#!+.

Somebody commented on my recent post about the election at my other blog. Well, “commented” isn’t quite the right word—more like “Demsplained.” I’ve been seeing a lot of this, and I am not having it. I’ll spare you the whole self-righteous rant, but I do want to address the overall gist by responding to a few brief excerpts.

Stop blaming Bernie supporters.

Not if they stayed home on election day, no. They absolutely share the blame. (I voted for Sanders in the primary.)

Stop blaming white people.

The ones who overwhelmingly voted for Trump? The ones who stayed home or cast third-party votes in swing states? No.

Stop blaming Black people or Latinos.

Only a Trump-magnitude asshole would ever do that.

Stop blaming people who voted their conscience.

Jeezus Christ. EVERYONE voted their conscience, and even people who stayed home did so because of conscience. Their consciences suck. I can and will hold accountable every single one of them if they had any part in this outcome. Lard knows they’re highly unlikely to ever do it themselves. Especially not with people like you ranting about how blameless they all are.

You’re looking for me to suck it up and sing kumbaya with people who by their own action or inaction threw women, LGBTQs, immigrants, Muslims, Native Americans, the disabled, blacks and Latinxs, the poor, the environment, 20 million people who will lose health insurance etc. under the fucking bus because “They want us fighting among ourselves,” “They want us divided,” and “That’s how they always win.” No. That is an abuser’s tactic, and that shit does not fly with me. Not any more.

I am not the one who did the fucking “dividing” here; YOU are refusing to hold accountable those who are actually responsible. They, and you, need to OWN THAT SHIT.

If you’re getting a sense of deja vu like I am, I think its because the parallels to Big Tent Atheism™ are only too obvious.

  1. Not sure who I’m responding to in this last post. But I think everyone should accept the fact that we have a newly elected president and all the name calling, looking to blame someone, anyone, is just a waste of energy. The voters have made their choice, that’s the way a democracy works. I personally think that the winner is a disgusting, stupid, wildly unqualified fuck – but almost half the country disagrees with me.

Everything I’ve been reading since early Wednesday morning about rallying the troops, making our voices heard, let’s stop this before it starts – is the same thing the republicans said, and pretty much did, within 2 minutes after Obama was elected in 2007. And what happened? The country basically stopped functioning. Do we really want, or can we afford 4 more years of this nonsense. Most of what the Trumpster has been saying that scares the shit out of most of us, is talk. I’m hoping that there are enough protections in place in our country to prevent most of his bullshit ideas from actually happening. And I’m very much looking forward to the Trump Impeachment hearings, and I’d guess that within the first year he’ll drop something in our laps to start the process.

In the meantime, if we’re still looking to place blame – start with Hilary. So was a bad candidate and we should have realized that BEFORE we started allowing her to become the candidate. Too many Clinton haters were just waiting for this opportunity. And honestly, talk about dropping things in the laps of the opposition, fuck!!! The emails, the association with the questionable Clinton Foundation, all the money. But, forget those issues – she also never got her message out, if she even had one. I can’t think of one thing she said that made me want to vote FOR her, as opposed to voting against Trump. And during the entire month of August and the beginning of September, did we hear from her? Nope. What was she doing during that time? Having fund raising dinners with all her billionaire friends. What was Trump doing? Taking advantage of that by being in everyone’s face on every news station looking to play tapes over and over during the course of every day. Which of course they couldn’t do with Hillary – because she was dining with the 1%’ers. consider the visuals of this!

So rather than looking at the media, the whites, the blacks who don’t vote, the gun lobby, the lazy Latinos, etc etc etc – just look at Hillary. She blew it.

  2. I think everyone should accept the fact that we have a newly elected president

Anyone who does not accept that reality is delusional by definition, so I’m not sure what you’re point is. Unless by “accept” you mean “feel okay about,” in which case, hell no.

and all the name calling, looking to blame someone, anyone, is just a waste of energy.

Mocking conservatives and holding people accountable for their actions is a waste of energy? Wow are you at the wrong blog.

The voters have made their choice, that’s the way a democracy works.

Aww, you think you live in a democracy. How adorable.

I personally think that the winner is a disgusting, stupid, wildly unqualified fuck – but almost half the country disagrees with me.

And you are right, and they are wrong.

So let me get this straight: you think Republicans in control of all three branches of government should have liberals cooperating with them on enacting their right-wing agenda instead of fighting it tooth and nail. Ooookay. And to answer your question (though I disagree with your statement that “the country basically stopped functioning”), yes, thwarting a right-wing agenda is an exponentially better outcome than allowing a right-wing agenda to become law. Sometimes nothing is better than something. This is one of those times.

Most of what the Trumpster has been saying that scares the shit out of most of us, is talk.

First of all, you have NO WAY of knowing that. But even if I granted you that, talk fucking matters. This was day 1. Yesterday three Trump thugs surrounded my friends’ teenage son, spit on him, knocked what he was carrying out of his arms and called him a faggot.

I’m hoping that there are enough protections in place in our country to prevent most of his bullshit ideas from actually happening.

Like both Republican houses of congress and a right-wing Supreme Court? But you go ahead and enjoy your hope.

And I’m very much looking forward to the Trump Impeachment hearings, and I’d guess that within the first year he’ll drop something in our laps to start the process.

Oh absolutely, the Republican congress will totally impeach the Republican president.

In the meantime, if we’re still looking to place blame – start with Hilary. So was a bad candidate and we should have realized that BEFORE we started allowing her to become the candidate.

Hillary Clinton absolutely deserves a major part of the blame. (So does the entire Democratic Party establishment and leadership.) And some of us—including you—did realize that before she became the Democratic candidate and did everything we could to prevent it. It wasn’t enough (see: the entire Democratic Party establishment and leadership).

So rather than looking at the media, the whites, the blacks who don’t vote, the gun lobby, the lazy Latinos, etc etc etc – just look at Hillary. She blew it.

Hillary Clinton was a flawed candidate who ran a flawed campaign. In no way does that fact absolve or diminish “the media, the whites, the blacks who don’t vote, the gun lobby, the lazy Latinos [?!]” and anyone else who contributed to Trump’s win from their own share of the blame.

    • Well, it’s your blog and your rules, I’m simply a guest, a regular reader and a rare commenter. But your anticipation of what may or may not happen and anger and thought of moves going forward, prevent the possibility of working towards a common goal of trying to make things better for EVERYONE. It’s no different than Israel’s constant and unrelenting attitude of “us against the entire world” – “get them before they get us”, that results in situations where everything is at a standstill. No forward motion, no possibility of peace.

We’re on a dying planet along with close to 8 billion other people, we sure as shit better start trying to listen to others thoughts and try to understand their side of the story, or all will be lost.

I think a requirement is for everyone to play soccer, it’s a excellent TEAM sport. Teaches people to learn to work together. We’re not all alone and we HAVE to make compromises. And when we don’t, we just become frustrated angry fucks.

      • That’s not proving your point, sweetheart. That’s countering it. See, your point is that “my anticipation of what may or may not happen and anger and thought of moves going forward, prevent the possibility of working towards a common goal of trying to make things better for EVERYONE.” That is what you wrote, as we can all look and see. My point is no, that is not, in fact, what prevents the possibility of “working towards a common goal of trying to make things better for EVERYONE.” What prevents that possibility is that conservatives do not share this “common” goal. Conservatives either do not care (at best) or actively want to make things worse for most people, and only better for a relative few. It pretty much defines who they are. I don’t see how you could disagree with any of that. Even conservatives would agree with it.
