I CAN HAZ MOAR NAO PLZ:
Trump-loving Florida Gov. Rick Scott received a scalding order at a Starbucks in Gainesville Tuesday — and it definitely wasn’t a coffee.
An enraged customer was caught on camera chewing out the Sunshine State’s bumbling leader, calling him an “a–hole” and an “embarrassment” and running him out of the cafe empty-handed.
“You cut Medicaid, so I couldn’t get Obamacare,” the woman, identified by ABC Action News as Cara Jennings, yells in the clip, pointing her finger at Scott and silencing one of his aides who tries intervening.
“You’re an a–hole. You don’t care about working people. You should be ashamed to show your face around here.”
Scott tries to defend himself by saying he’s created “a million jobs” for his state.
“Great! Who here has a great job? Or is looking forward to finishing school? You really feel like you have a job coming up?” Jennings replies.
As Scott — with no drink in hand — and his staff walk out, and his staff walk out, Jennings gets in one more big dig.
“You stripped women of access to public health care!” she says, referencing the bill he signed just days ago cutting funds for reproductive health clinics.
“Shame on you, Rick Scott! We depend on those services! Rich people like you don’t know what to do! When poor people like us need health services, you cut ‘em. Shame on you, Rick Scott! You’re an embarrassment to our state!”
Jennings, a former Lake Worth city commissioner, later told ABC Action News customers “came up to me and thanked me.”
Well I’m thanking you too, Ms. Jennings. On the (obviously remote…) chance you’re not already one of my Many Tens of Loyal Readers™, my sincerely held religious belief is this:
[T]he social spaces in which conservatives freely regurgitate their toxic views with impunity are downright ubiquitous in the US. If we want to subvert this reality—that is, make the spaces conservatives have heretofore inhabited comfortably uncomfortable for them (for a refreshing change)—then there must be a social price to pay for spewing that tripe.
Unfortunately, decent people have a (generally admirable) live-and-let-live worldview, and a related tendency to be “polite,” to never cause “a scene,” to avoid making anyone uncomfortable, ever. I say “unfortunately” because, with conservatives running amok across the country (and the world) destroying everything, the kind of tolerance that should be a human virtue has instead become a devastating Achilles heel. In the absence of any pushback, right-wingers take silence as agreement—and it’s not as if they don’t already have their vile views validated 24/7, thanks to our notorious Liberal Media™ and the sycophants that invariably surround them. There is literally no downside to being a conservative shitweasel: if anything, they’re more likely to be elected, promoted and high-fived. Until that changes, well…we all better start practicing our HEIL TRUMP salutes.
In my ideal world* conservatives would be shunned, mocked, relentlessly criticized and mooned every single time they show their faces in public. They would be so disgusted by our nekkid arses they’d stay home and STFU 4EVAH.
So thanks for piling on, Ms. Jennings. You’re a goddamn USAmerican hero.
Now to be perfectly honest, the chances that I will ever find myself in Gainesville, Florida—or worse, Starbucks—are pretty close to zero. However! If you should ever find yourself anywhere near the Palace, your cocktails are on me. Until then, please accept the highly coveted Perry Street Palace Major Award for Starbucks Customer of the Day. Congratulations.
Watch Cara Jennings being awesome:
*I kid, I kid! In my ideal world, conservatives would stop being fucking conservative and ruining everything. But until we find a cure, we have shunning, mocking, relentlessly criticizing and mooning as our best weapons.
