I went to a funeral mass for an 89 year old WWII vet yesterday, and to the wake the night before. (Yes, believe it or not this godless heathen actually entered a church—and did not immediately burst into flames.) He had a bronze star, a Purple Heart, and was injured at the Battle of the Bulge. I did not know him—he was the father of My Amazing Lover™’s long-time friend and colleague—but what so moved me was to learn how much he HATED war.

I feel physically sick when I compare his attitude to that of the vast majority of American leaders and pundits, who have never in my lifetime been the slighted bit reluctant to project US military power and violence all over the globe on behalf of America’s Owners.

I want to live in a country whose leaders think like him. I wish I had known him.
