Man is certainly stark mad.

Michel de Montaigne was some d00d who lived in the 14th century.

Most people were extremely boring in the 16th century.  I base this opinion on two incontrovertible facts:  first, the vast majority of people living in the 21st century appear to be extremely boring; and second, humans have had five centuries to evolve since the 1500s, and yet here we are.  Humans are still, for the most part, really fucking boring.

This is what makes this Michel de Montaigne d00d especially awesome.  In the 1500s — the 1500s!— he actually said some very interesting shit.  For instance:

Man is certainly stark mad. He cannot make a flea, and yet he will be making gods by the dozen.

Not boring, amirite?

But wait! There’s more:

How many things served us yesterday for articles of faith, which today are fables to us?

Philosophy is doubt.

To know much is often the cause of doubting more.

Nothing is so firmly believed as what we least know.

We now return to your regularly scheduled boredom.
